Emma’s Garden -Lavender and Lace
Hi, has anyone done this pattern on 14 count Aida rather than linen? Was wondering what color might be best? Thinking Ivory, with the blue cross stitched at the bottom of the picture?
Is the lace difficult to stitch? Is it x-stitch or a combination of embroidery stitches?
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I have seen the instructions to stitch this design at another location. The fabric this calls for is 32 count an Amsterdam Blue Belfast Linen (DMC color equivalent is #3768) but then recommends bleach dying just the top half of the fabric so the color turns out that light yellow/peach color on top and the grayish blue color seen at the bottom (if you look at the cover photo) is the actual Amsterdam Blue color. The stitching is listed as 2 DMC threads over 2 linen threads which would mean you could stitch it on aida over 1 square. The lacy portion at the bottom is done with the pearl #8 and #12 and pearl white Mill Hill beads. The lace portion at the bottom is stated to include embroidery stitches, most likely this is where the 2 different weights of pearl cotton is used as it is a heavier weight than embroidery floss and would give that heavier lacy look. I'm a stitcher who uses this board. I hope this info helps to answer many of the questions you asked and I found this info at another location on the web.

Has anyone done bleach dyeing? Do you brush it on? I looked it up but it was geared to tie dyeing. The thought of putting bleach on fabric scares me😳

Thanks. I’ve ordered the pattern and will give it a go.

I’ve never bleach-dyed or tie-dyed either, but obviously the bleach -dilution-ratio-with-water would be important and, for some jug-head reasoning on my part, I picture myself ‘dipping’ the end of the material down into the bleach-water solution in a plastic bucket for 10 seconds and then Hold the material up to see the results.

@murillome, I have dyed and bleached dyed several projects. ( I used
to teach a Batik class.) It doesn't take much bleach and water solution,
I also weaken it as I go to get gradations in the colour. I have used feathers, string,
brushes and my favourite small syringes from my cats medicine that I saved.
I also work on it while it is wet to get a feathering look.

I agree with the others here that I would be fearful to bleach and wreck costly fabric unless you know how to do this without damage. I would probably take the easy way out and buy a light yellow or peach fabric and hand cross stitch the blue at the bottom using the dmc 3768 color match to the suggested fabric then overlay the lace details. Maybe someone has a you tube demonstration on how to do this bleaching/dying process. Just a few thoughts and ideas to make it your own. Good luck on what you decide, and I hope your project turns out real pretty.

That is a beautiful cross stitch. I have never tried one of their patterns before because I hate beading but I think they are beautiful, as for the bleaching I am with the rest I would be worried I would mess up the fabric. I agree with the others I would cross stitch the blue on it instead of taking the chance of ruining a beautiful piece of fabric.
