The pattern calls for 3023, 3022 and 3787 for shading on a white dress. This seems to be too dark for shading or am I misinterpreting the pattern and chart.

I haven't done this one, but it's called "Ice Angel" and those colors depict the colors seen in ice (think iceberg) not just shading of white. At least that's what I think. Could be totally off. lol :) Liz

Not really, because white has colours reflected in it
and on the surface. To make a white stand out
your shadowing needs to push the white to the forefront.
One of the hardest test to pass for a scenic artist is to paint a
an egg on canvas and you need shadowing to define it.
Trust the artist in this instance and I think you will be pleased.

Wow! I never thought of painting an egg on a white canvas. What a challenge! (Couldn't you just use a real egg and smash it on the canvas to drive the point home?) LOL >:-b

@ Imurdoch, If I didn't want that union card and work so bad at the time
that could have be a spectacular move! I am laughing so hard right now.....

3022 , 3023, 3787 are dark browns. When sown in make the white dress look as if it has brown stripes. Rather than shading folds in the dress these browns stand out.

Sorry Janet I had know idea they were in the brown
“family”. I zoomed in on the picture but....
I think I would still trust the designer’s choices
though.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised once you start stitching how well it blends in.
