I like your version better.

It's your choice to stitch a pattern however it suits you. The designer is giving you their version of something. I rarely change what the designer has decided, but I usually put in more backstitching than they do. I think it brings out the colors I used more. It also reminds me of stained glass. Just a stitcher who saw your posting.
