Do you mean black fabric? No, you can stitch on any color but would probably want to stitch a black background.

Are you asking if it is stitched with only black thread? If so, I don't know for sure, but by looking at the photo, I would suspect there are several shades of gray threads used along with the black thread to make this design. This description states this is a kit. It includes everything, white fabric, thread, etc. Please take a second look. Just a stitcher who saw your posting.
