Project No. 2 Hydrangeas and Shells
This project is coming along nicely but I do have a problem I need some advice with. There is a lot of back stitching. Along the window frames and books it looks great as they are just straight lines from one hole to another. But a lot of the backstitching is curved. So to get through the fabric and cottons where there is no hole to use should I switch to a sharp needle? This the pic so far. I have to slow down now, because ECS has just advised my next order has just been dispatched, which means I won't get it for about 2 weeks!

OMG! I love this! I saw this pattern and wanted to stitch it! I love it, good work.

As far as the backstitching, I jump from the first hole to the next hole, wherever it is - I don't puncture my fabric. Hope you understand what I'm talking about. Try it! I used to puncture my fabric until I did it this way, and it's much neater (to me). That's just my opinion. There's others that are more experienced than me and may do it another way. Hope we hear about it another method, I would love to know too.

Yes. You may need to switch to a sharp needle if the back stitching doesn't line up with the aida.

Slyvia, as jclifford said, don't puncture the fabric. Go from hole to hole, following the lines on the pattern. Some lines will be straight, some will be diagonal across a square. Also, you don't have to backstitch over one square at time, you can do a backstitch over several squares, just keep them uniform in length.

Try doing it both ways and see what you like.

This looks great! I tend to go from hole to hole instead of piercing the fabric, but it's up to you. Everyone has their own way of stitching.
