What was your dumbest mistake as a newbie.
Mine was frogging and frogging only to realise I was holding the fabric sideways.🙀

Ah - so many to choose from.....can't decide which was the dumbest!

Nor realizing that there is a front and back to the fabric. I still can't see the difference!

I didn’t know there was a front and back!

I think it was when I became so frustrated with the project I didn't know what to do so I threw it all away. Way back in the 1960's I bought a kit. I had never seen counted cross stitch and thought the kit was stamped. When I found a blank piece of holey fabric and a chart I didn't know where to start. Remember there was no internet or YouTube to look anything up. I tried to follow the directions and got lost so many times I finally gave up and threw the whole thing away. Glad I tried again after seeing pictures on display at the county fair.

Marydenmark, yes Aida cloth has a right and wrong side. Look closely in good light.

Mine was constantly miscounting--got new glasses and been fine since, also learned to count twice stitch once.

Like Marydenmark, I didn't know Aida has a right/wrong side! I will definitely take a look. What is the difference that I should see?? Mary

Not measuring the amount of fabric I needed correctly for a project, realizing that I would run out of fabric before I got to stitching the last 3rd of the right side of the pattern (after having stitched it for 3 weeks).
