Aussie Birds
Hi Bermuda - you are very observant. Yes that was a hibiscus but the grasshoppers loved it and I won't spray poison because of my birds, so it has gone and I've planted the garden with lots lavender pentas and many more shrubs. My garden is white lavender and pink No reds or oranges for me. Here is pic of same garden at Xmas. The large trees are Crepe Myrtle. We can't grow many blossom trees in Queensland so this is as close as I can get to having one.

With our hot, sunny weather we can grow hibiscus, mandevillas(sp), bougenvillas(sp). However, for here, they are only annuals and bloom til the first frost. I love them. I hate grasshoppers with a passion but I won't use poisons because of the wildlife. I also have a huge rosemary bush that I pinch off my rosemary for cooking, another reason no poison. Pam

Beautiful garden Sylvia! You must have the same temperatures as where we live in South Carolina. There are plenty of Crepe Myrtle trees here. I throw in all different colors in my garden, blues, yellows, pinks, whites, reds from the rose bushes that are beginning to bloom. I encourage the frogs, toads (minus the poor fella I found while clearing out a yard drain today. See my ‘Cleaning drain’ comment on the chat), geckos and birds to take care of the bug population as best they can. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are stopping by to feed on their spring migration flight up the east coast of the U.S. heading toward Canada. Some hummers visit us throughout the summer.
Pam, I also put in hibiscus and mandevilla for the year till
The cold (below 50 degrees) gets them. I’ve planted gardenia bushes ( Perennials)this year.

Hi Bermuda again. Our climate much warmer than yours . Bougies flourish here and flower all year same for msndevillas and hibiscus. If temp Drops below 20 C.(I think that’s about 70F. ) we complain how cold it is! This is one of my 15 bougies!
