Right/wrong sode
Can’t find the chat but I remember someone saying there is right/wrong side to Aida fabric. So I had a good look and yes I can see the difference. Have finished first 1/4 of my current project and yes. It’s on “wrong” side. Please tell me it doesn’t matter

I never knew either! If your pattern is a cover-all, or very little of the aida is going to show, does it really matter? I think I would just tuck away the info for the next project😊

It absolutely does not matter!!!!!!! I had read that eons ago. I tried-I really did. I have cross stitched for over 30+ years. When I look at my work that I have done, I see no right side - wrong side. If it truly bothers you though (and that is the only person you need to satisfy), on your next project, shoot for the right side. I shortened my answer. I am afraid the cross stitch police might actually show up and find that extra stitch. LOL :) :) Sometimes I try to be funny and I am not!

It doesn’t matter a jot.

There's a right side and a wrong side to almost all fabrics; sometimes it matters (are my clothes inside-out?), sometimes not (is the blanket on the bed right-side up?). Many years ago I was told that the 'right' side of Aida or linen was the smoother side, or with some fabrics perhaps the slightly 'glossier' or shinier side. I don't know if that's correct, but it's the guide I've somewhat followed.

For me, the right side doesn't really matter. When I start a project I gently run my fingertips or hand across each side of the fabric; if I can feel that one side is smoother than the other, I'll stitch on that side. If I can't notice a difference within two or three passes of the hand, I just make a decision and proceed with stitching!

I have been stitching for over 30 years and have never noticed any difference in either side. I wash all my Aida first in washer and also use fabric softener so may-be that takes away the difference.

On some aida it is more noticeable...I just pick the side I like the look of. One of the first articles I read said it didn't matter...but I still pick a side. 😊

That is a beautiful project! As to right side/wrong side, if anyone has a preference and tries to pin that on someone else they should just go pound salt! Can you imagine someone looking at a painting masterpiece and saying, "It's pretty good, but I think she got the wrong side of the canvas." If it is important to the individual stitcher, then they should certainly go with their preference. The cross stitch police should stay out of the way of stitchers who can't tell or don't care about right side/wrong side. Just my not so humble opinion. Karen

I agree with you loveto but I think that the chatters were “just saying” not policing. I use Zweigart Aida if Aida is called for but usual stitch on linen so I’m no expert and don’t really care.
