Frames
Hi - does anyone have experience with Joann’s Frames that are sectional and you assemble yourself. I have some awkward size projects to frame. I can find nothing similar in Toronto. I will be visiting Buffalo tomorrow and could shop at Joann’s. Thanks for any advice.

I do my own framing. Haven't tried the ones from Joann's. Bought something similar from Michaels one time and had an awful time with it, but it could have been me. I order custom cut frames from a company online called Pictureframes.com, they can make just about any size frame and they ship to you assembled. I have purchased off of ebay from a store called Craig Frames, but I'm not sure if they do custom sizes anymore. They do have specials from time to time if you need more than one frame, sometimes they have a 3 or 4 pack deal going.

thanks for the information - I’ll certainly check out the websites. Unfortunately quite often the cost for shipping can be so expensive it makes it impossible to purchase. It doesn’t seem that the ones to assemble would be a good idea.

This piece needed a non-standard size and the assemble yourself ones would not work. I made a frame from foam core board and covered it in fabric. I didn't use this tutorial, but my process was fairly similar.

You might try framing shops
In your area, not to have them frame it for you because that is expensive BUT to see if you can buy sections of framing material from THEIR store’s supply room where they store different lengths of different styles of framing material.
My local framing store allowed me to go back into their storeroom and look at all the frame styles they had. I bought a 8 foot length of a nicely styled frame to go home and miter the corners to make a frame. I get glass cheap from a hardware store that cut the 6” x 8” piece of glass for a frame I bought without glass.
It cost me $2.00.

Hi MarzHere and Bermuda
Thanks for the information and ideas! None of my finished projects fit in standard size frames so your replies were very helpful.
