Mary’s window calendar
Hi Mary, can you please tell me the title of the calendar or publication you posted with the cute window designs? I’d like to try to track down a copy on eBay or Etsy or wherever I can find one. Thank you!

Hi Iseida.....You want to look for Arets Korssting 1989. To be perfectly correct the A is the Danish Å. Happy hunting

Mary, thanks very much! I also appreciate the photo of the cover!

I hope that you find it...keep me in the loop.

Mary, the title and photo did the trick. I found three copies, although two of them were priced a bit too high for me ($100 and more). I found a third that was doable and have ordered it. I’m thrilled because I love those patterns. I had tried to find a copy before but had no luck without the title. Thanks again!

Hi Linda, I’m pleased that you got it AND at a reasonable price. I know that the old ones can really be pricey but usually it’s possible to find one...I make it into a sport!
You can use DMC but if you get into Danish Flower Thread....it is available in the US. I’m told. You will get the effect of why this Guild is considered the elite of the elite here in Danmark ( stitched with one thread)
I have done two of the windows that look out to the park. I didn’t know about gridding at the time and the trees were a nightmare....take heed!

Thanks for the advice, Mary! I will be extra careful with the trees. 😊 Your comment about the Danish flower thread has made me very curious. I think I’m going to have to try it. I’ve admired it in the work of Gerda Bengtsson.

Did I understand correctly—you used one strand of the flower thread for this type of pattern? Do you think it provided adequate coverage? Did you work with linen or Aida? I gravitate toward Aida I wonder if these patterns would come out all right on Aida?

Your comment about the hunt for a pattern being like a sport made me smile. When I’m looking for
something specific like this it feels like a treasure hunt and I hate to give up or be thwarted by a lack of results. Funny how that search can drive you to keep looking.

Thank you again for your help and advice concerning these patterns! Linda

Hi Linda

I’m glad that you’re willing to give Danish Flower Thread a try.....there’s something about it, but I can’t tell you what.
One strand is just a tiny wee bit thicker than 2 of DMC. I sometimes use a needle threader with it if I’m using #22 needle but not all the time. It’s fine on 14 and 28 count. I’ve used both Aida and linen but I’ve lately had a problem with my eyes that Aida is kinder to. Both fabrics are satisfactory.

Garda Bengtsson has a couple of books out. I’ve used her for her Christmas designs and her flowers for greeting cards for a couple of older friends. I always stitch her designs with DFT. Please let me know how you get along. DFT don’t come in as many hues as DMC so starting to collect them isn’t so hard on your pocket book. I just have one normal sized plastic bobbin box that isn’t even filled......yet.

I've heard of the DFT from some of the older members, but never tried it. ☺
I love the Mary Englebreit's print! 😊
