It would be the same as 16 ct Aida. Another stitcher did this recently & can answer better.

Yes, Jlhewes is correct. I recently completed this project on the 32 count linen. Fortunately, I don't have any serious vision problems and was able to use the raw linen. This is a beautiful picture. I would encourage you to make it. My belief is we each need to choose a fabric we are comfortable in using. It takes a while to make this and I think if I felt "frustrated" in using a 32 count fabric that is so small, it would have taken me twice as long to complete the picture! Before I made this, I researched Marilyn Leavitt-Imblum's site to see if there was an explanation for the various animals. I will give those to you: (This is a direct quote from her website.)
"The first animal I thought of was a dove of peace. Then I added a little bear, symbolizing Russia. The wolf represents countries that have violent governments and use this violence to survive. The gentle brown rabbit is caught in the middle but looking towards peace. The wise spotted owl sits near the head of man in hopes that he will find wisdom before it is too late. Santa's staff represents history, a guide for moving forward. The fabric of his robe became the forest and trees and stars. His colorful mittens represent the children of the world, extensions of the wise person. This design represents a gathering of nations towards world peace as well as respecting the environment."

The story behind the pattern is just as beautiful as the finished picture.

Nancye, I agree. You probably know that Marilyn passed away August of 2012. She had M.S. which was never publicized. The world lost a "gentle soul".

I made this santa for one of my granddaughters. i did several Santas (I have 7 Grandkids and 10 great grandkids) and I have done quite a few L&L patterns, including the 5 panel Nativity one. Of all of them "Santa of the Forest" was my favorite. I did him on 18 count and he is just gorgeous. I've been away from cross stitch for a few years, but I am getting started again, re-building my stash. And I have a drawer full of files w/patterns to do.

Rosemarie, Sounds like you have a wonderful family. I am sure they appreciate all of the stitching you have done for them!! Santa of the Forest is also my very favorite.
If you are getting back into stitching, you will love this chat room! There are several of us who are not "shy" about admitting we are addicted to this craft! I am one. The postman just left my door. What did he bring?? (ordered from ECS of course):
1) Lavender & Lace - Enchanted Alphabet.
2) The "Wake up Prayer" from Stoney Creek which goes like this: "Dear Lord, so far today, I've done all right. I have not gossiped or lost my temper. I have not been greedy, grumpy,. nasty, selfish or over-indulgent. I'm very thankful for that but, in a few minutes, God, I'm getting out of bed and from then on I am probably going to need a lot more help. Amen".
3) Red Barn in the Snow by Artecy. I was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia...this picture looks like "home" to me.

handycampers2, I loved doing this piece, but I can't imagine doing it twice.

Of course I am on my second Sue Colman Picture. The first was Wolf (http://www.everythingcrossstitch.com/wolf-mrp-p39838.aspx?k2=m381) - a picture of a wolf drinking from a stream with a Native American symbol for a wolf reflected in the background. I am now working on Killer Whale (http://www.everythingcrossstitch.com/killer-whale-mrp-p38824.aspx?k2=m381). This one is for my oldest son who lives in Seattle, WA. He loves Orcas and thids one is the truest representation I could find.

Love to hear about what others do!

remember if you use a count other than the suggested size to adjust for the difference... better to have more than you need than to find yourself short!!! i speak from experience! i used a 14 count aida instead of linen... i have cataracs and for me aida is best... linen drives me nuts... i also used a rustic aida that worked well with the piece and my husband made me a 3 inch wide barnwood frame... i gave that one to my daughter and son-in law to celebrate their first christmas together and i also stitched on the bottom of the piece for the occasion... to k and b on your first christmas as a family---not knowing she was 1 month pregnant!!! a special occasion all around. the first one i made for my mom and dad and mom keeps it up all yr round since she and dad loved christmas and that reminds her of him...have fun with this one!
