Size on 18ct
The description says this was done on 25ct, I was just wondering how large it would be if done on 18 count. And is white aida the recommended color to stitch it on?

If you stitch this pattern on 18 count it will be 26 X 21 just do not forget to add 6 extra inches for the frame and border. Have fun.

The answer to your first question is: The finished stitch area is 26 31 inches if you stitch on 18 ct fabric.

I will share a secret on how to figure it yourself. When you click on the picture you are taken to a supply list screen. About midway on the left side of the screen you will see a picture of a calculator. Click that and you enter the number of stitches and you will have your answer.

Second question -- Yes, the designer recommends stitching on white fabric

Miss C got her post in before I finished researching mine. She is correct that you need an extra six inches of fabric in each direction.

At first I thought that she had the wrong dimensions. I went back and recalculated the size using the on screen calculator. Then I used my hand held calculator and came up with the same answer that Miss C had

Finished stitching area is 26 x 21 inches. Add an extra 6" in each direction (width and height) so you need a piece of fabric that is 32 x 27.

NOTE TO KRISTI: Please see that Troy takes a look at the calculator on Monday

Thank you both so much for your help and quick responses!

KRISTI AND TROY -- I calculated and recalculated on your calculator and then my own several times. Then I got bumped off my computer. When I came back up. The calculated size dimensions were correct. Sorry about that.

However, I do think that some of suggested size of fabric is off.

Another question ... I always thought that the lower the aida cloth count, the larger the picture. Why would the size cloth needed for 18 count be SMALLER than what is needed for 25 count? Shouldn't it require more cloth since it is a smaller number?

Thanks!

You are correct -- usually the larger the count of the fabric the smaller the finished stitch area.

The pattern "suggests" that you stitch on 25 ct fabric over two (two holes). In effect, would be the same as stitching on 12-1/2 fabric (if there was such a thing) over one hole .
Yes, it can be confusing

Heaven and Earth Designs are designed to be stitched over 1 on 25 count. The easiest way to convert the size is just look at the stitch count... in this case 475 x 395. To figure out the size on 18 count, divide each number by 18, so 26.4" x 21.9". Add a framing allowance ( 3" on each side), so you need fabric 32.4" x 27.9"

Nancy, you forgot about the computer glitch that ECS still hasn't fixed on H&E designs...they show "over 2", but the designers call for "over 1". :)

Hello,

Yes, our system automatically defaults designs to be stitched "over 2" when it reaches a certain fabric count. I apologize but for this but the IT guy hasn't found an easy solution to fix this without having to redo the entire program. I have tried to go in and redo the descriptions and take off the fabric suggestions for Heaven and Earth designs but it seems I may have missed some?!
