This is made from hard plastic that is supposed to be adjustable after soaking in hot water for a few seconds. I was hopeful, but this simply does not work. I left it in the water longer on my second attempt but still, there was no give. I also tried working with the thimble as is and gave up rather quickly because you don't get the same control of the needle as you would with a rubber one.

Adjustable thimble
I love to cross stitch and recently discovered I am allergic to the nickel used to make needles. Can someone recommend a needle that doesn't contain nickel? I am thinking about ordering the adjustable thimble to protect my thumb from being in contact with the needle. Does anyone know what the thimble is made from or has anyone tried using the thimble while cross stitching?
Thank you and happy stitching!
