DMC thread
Hello Stitchers, I'm still working on Viktoriya (probably will be forever..smile) anyhow.. I have sure noticed the quality of the thread all of a sudden..It does not cover as well as it used to. You really notice it when you are working one thread over one fabric thread and it seems to shred at times. I have been at this long enough and know when thread changes..some colors more than others but still consistently not covering as well. Is the thread company making the thread thinner? Has anyone else experienced any difference?

I have on some of the threads. Like yourself, I'm working one strand of DMC floss over one square on 28-count ( Sacred Hour by HAED). I've had a few instances of the floss shredding as I stitch and a bit of lack of coverage. I'm going to shorten the length of the floss I'm stitching width to test out a theory that because I'm only using one strand of floss, that one piece of floss is getting more worn by its trip through the holes of the fabric, ie. Like metal fatigue, the constant stress...

I have noticed some changes in the DMC threads also. I had one skein of moss green that couldn't be separated--it just started to get frizzy and I couldn't use it.

I have had the same problem. It depends on where you bought the floss. I usually order froM ECS. I was in a hurry and used Walmart thread. It was old, little if any turnover. There is a lack of cross stitching interest in my area and no embroidery shops. The thread shredded/very fragile. I had to order the colors. Check the source of the floss. Is the needle the right size? Good luck with the project.

There was a "chat" discussion a while back regarding the DMC floss quality, including how certain stores get the "low quality" floss (seconds?), versus the higher quality of floss in stores such as Everything Cross Stitch, other top website stores, and certain craft stores (which are getting fewer and fewer).

Isn't there some kind of "special" floss that you aren't supposed to separate because it gets "frizzy"? Sorry, phrases are tripping stuff in my head...I'll go away and soak it...soaking seems to remove everything. :)

LOL! Don't soak your head for too long, you'll get "water on the brain". LOL!
