Size
I'd like to use this pattern, but would like to make a smaller size. I do have a decent magnifier light.
What are my options and how do I determine the number of threads to use if I reduce the size?

Just take the stitch count (300 x 200) and divide by the fabric count that you want to use. Example - 18 count fabric: 300/18 = 16.7, 200/18 = 11.1 So finished size would be 16.7"x 11.1" add 6" to each direction (3" per side) for framing and you would need a piece of fabric approximately 23" x 17". Use 2 strands of floss for 18 count fabric. If you use 28 or 32 count fabric and stitch over 1 thread, you would only use 1 strand of floss. This is really up to you as to how much coverage you prefer. I have a Mystic Stitch pattern that says to use 2 strands of floss on 14 count fabric. I didn't like the way the fabric was showing through, so I ripped it out and I am using 3 strands. Hope this helps!

Bruce STL- re your comment on a Mystic stitch pattern using 2 strands on 14 ct Aida- I am working on a Mystic stitch full coverage pattern with the same instructions and agree with you. I think it will be fine once pressed ( and not under the mag-lite!) but the next one I stitch will be with 3 strands or switched to 16 ct aida.

CPS, glad I could be of assistance. I wish that I had found this website years ago. Very helpful!

Murillome, I had stitched about 75 stitches and wasn't pleased with the way it looked. I worried over it for a while trying to decide whether to continue or just rip it out and start over with 3 strands. I finally decided that 25 pages of pattern was TOO much to do and then not be happy with the results. I am almost done with the 10th page and I am glad that I changed it out. I prefer something stitched solid to look more like a tapestry.

I agree, Bruce. I also prefer complete coverage but dislike stitching with three strands. Four is okay because I can still "railroad". My preference is two. I stitched a pattern recently with two and it looked very nice until I had to use black. There were many 1/4 stitches and they didn't look so hot with 3 strands so I decided to go with a smaller count fabric. Of course the project is much smaller than I had intended but it's a seasonal piece and not that critical.
