size of hoops
My question is I'm doing the My Sister, My Friend pattern and I would like to know how do you figure what size hoop to get? it's telling me the project size is 8.7x 8.7 and stitch count is 122wx122h using 14 ct Aida cloth? In general how do you judge what size on any project?

Thanks

Hi,
I have different sizes of hoops, but basically I keep in mind at least 3 things when choosing a hoop size which are:

1) The hoop size should be large enough if possible for me to have enough material that I can get
my needle to stitch the cross stitches on the edges of the pattern without bumping into the hoop.

2) I want my hoop big enough if possible to prevent having to move the hoop when stitching the
pattern, if possible.

3) The FABRIC for my project should be large enough that I have some fabric hanging out a little
around the hoop. I usually have my fabric 3 inches or larger for mounting and framing the
completed project and that usually gives me enough material for the hoop to "grab" onto; where
fabric won't pull out of the hoop when it's tightened.
Hope this helps! I'm not an employee of Everything CrossStitch but one of the stitchers on their "chat" that saw your question. :)
