Cleaning
I recently finished a beautiful counted cross stitch but my cat made sure it didn't stay clean. I used all DMC floss and was wondering if it is safe to have it dry cleaned.

You can wash it. DMC Floss washes beautifully. I use a few drops of dishwashing liquid (Dawn currently) in cool water. Soak a few minutes and then just squeeze the suds gently through the fabric several times. Rinse in cool water several times (until you don't see any more soap bubbles) and roll the picture in a towel tightly to get the excess water out of it. At that point, you can either hang it to dry or iron it dry on another towel - face down so your stitches don't flatten out. Hope this works out well for you.

Hello...Senior Stitcher gave you good advice. From time to time in this chat room the subject of washing stitched items comes up. I believe that is what most of us do. Not too long ago, I pulled out my copy of the "DMC Needlework Threads Color Card" and reviewed it. There is a section called "Wash and Care Instructions for DMC Needlework Threads". The care instructions are what Senior Stitcher gave you. They do say that various Dry Cleaners use something called: Trichloroethylene. This agent would be harmful to the thread colors. I always wash my finished projects and iron on the back with the threads face down and have never had a problem. I hope this information will help you. If you have more questions, just ask us! There are many "Veteran" Stitchers on this web site!
(I am just a Stitcher in the Chat Room, I do not work for ECS.)
