laundering finished products
I just completed a counted cross stitch blanket and wish to know the best way to launder it before I give it as a gift.

Hi,
I saw your chat question and went to Yahoo engine and typed in "washing cross stitch blanket". Two of the results I found was "DMC USA" site and "stitchingthenightaway.com". Both had the same directions one would find if a stitcher was washing a completed cross stitch project to be framed.
Personally, if I was going to wash a completed baby blanket I would hand wash it in COOL water in a very clean basin using a mild dishwashing liquid and gently squeeze the soapy water through the blanket! Do NOT use Woolite or bleach. Let the blanket soak for about an hour then rinse thoroughly with COOL, CLEAR water until rinse water no longer soapy. SQUEEZE out excess water, do NOT TWIST fabric to remove excess water and then lay flat on large white towel and roll towel to help remove excess water.. I would then lay blanket flat and squared-straight on a new clean dry white towel and put another white towel over blanket for overnight to further absorb water. If the blanket has fringe I would straighten out the fringe to dry. If blanket is dry, I would use a warm iron with a towel over and under the blanket for a light press; if blanket still damp, I would put clean dry white towel under the blanket until completely dry. I use white towels because I get concerned that dark towels might leave any type of "lint" color on blanket
I used this method on a baby blanket I had cross-stitched cute dinosaurs on for my neighbor's baby boy years ago. Hope this helps!
I'm not an employee of ECS but a cross stitcher that saw your "chat".
