Help
I received my kit in the mail and was eager to start, but the different anchor threads do not have the names corresponding to each color. This is very frustrating. Am I supposed to just guess which color is which?!

I've worked quite a few Janlynn kits and generally the floss comes bundled with a list in the directions that says what colours are in what bundle, and cards with holes to sort the floss into.

In bright (preferably natural) light, separate the bundles by colour. Count the number of strands of each colour and compare to the chart as far as closest name and strands provided for each one. For example, if you have two strands each of two browns, and there are colours such as "light golden brown" and "mustard brown" you'll have to use your best judgement as to which is which. If you are really in a pickle over two, look at the symbol chart and compare it to the picture on the front of the kit. That usually solves any real riddles for me.

As you sort the colors into the provided card, make sure you mark down either the number, name or symbol for the colour on the card!

Thanks @craftydivakat for your quick response and valuable information. Here is the problem I encountered. This kit has 12 groups of threads on the card. I was able to sort out the different color threads for the first 6 groups by using your reasoning.

But then for instance, on group 7, according to the chart there are supposed to be two colors, "rose brown" & "dark yellow beige", yet there is also a third unidentified color thread. For group 8, there is a blue thread that's supposed to be an orange. And on and on there are mistakes for the rest of the card.

It sucks I purchased this, and won't even be able to stitch it. Do you think I can get an exchange for another kit on this site? There is another kit I brought from everythingcrossstitch that I've had no problems with. Different designer though.

I did this exact project many years ago. Back then it was only a cross stitch pattern using DMC floss. It came out beautifully. I looked and it is no longer available as just a pattern. one of the reasons I don't buy kits is because I want to use DMC floss and a lot of kits don't use it. A few times when I liked the pattern in a kit I bought the kit and then converted all the floss numbers to DMC. You can get a conversion chart at Cyberstitchers.com. I hope you get your floss figured out because it is a beautiful project.
