How do you figure out how big of a cloth you need.
Hey everyone,
I have been a cross stitcher for years but have learned that as I have gotten older it is harder for me to work on the smaller count fabric (EX: 18 count) as I can't see it as well as I used to. How do I go about figuring out what size of a fabric I need if I want to put the pattern on a bigger count such as 14 count. I know the pattern won't look as tight or as smooth but there are some really cute patterns out there I would like to try.

Thanks!!

First of all, I can so relate to this topic!! What you need to do is take the total stitch count across and divide it by 14, if you are using a 14 count, then take the total stitch count up and down and divide it by 14. Then you can add 6 inches total to the measurement, that will give you 3 inches all the way around your pattern for finishing or framing. Also, there is a fabric size calculator on this site to help you out, it is under item categories, go to fabric. Hope this helps!

Add me too the relate list. I have found and used the "calculator" provided by ECS to be a life saver when getting all the materials needed to begin a project, Thank you ECS. I just recently ordered a combo light and mahnifier from ECS that I'm VERY PLEASEDWITH and it too is a life saver. I guess it's best said: hell to get old . Can't afford to stay young!!!!
