Opinions welcome!
Ok, need some opinions on stitching birth records for my two great nephews and niece. They are not babies anymore. This summer the oldest will be 3 and the twins will be 2 in the fall. I call them Irish Triplets lol. I've always wanted to do the name and date birth record for them but not sure if it is too late since they are not newborns. My sister says that their mom loves hand-made things and would probably still welcome them. What are your thoughts?

My opinion is that it is never too late to do something like this. I am sure your niece will appreciate the thought and time you put into them and I think the children will enjoy them as well. Also, it is something that they can have when they get older and hopefully appreciate it as well. I started one for my son when I was pregnant and didn't finish it until he was almost 5!!! It's never too late.

Hi, just responding to your birth sampler dilemma. I have 9 grandchildren and am in the process of finishing the 9th one. They are never too old for this gift from you. Some of the kids did not get their sampler until they were 4 or 5. Hang in there, they will appreciate it.

Several years ago I did a birth sampler for someone's grand-daughter who was six at the time.

My experience and seeing some reactions of other hobbyists... Dont take "Mom's" word for whether handmade items are loved. Does she display and use handmade stuff? Does she do crafting...of any kind? ...I'm upfront with a younger generation, specially...if you aren't going to use it, tell me what you want store-bought...even when mom begged for a birth announcement,a quilt, hand-painted items for the nursery, kitchen, bath...Don't be surprised at the reaction of the young women! Gratitude that you include them in the process, relief from not having yet another item to have to display (extended families can sometimes be a curse of mixed tastes and youthful relatives can be the victim!) Remember? :)

Don't know about what you do, but I'm not stitching "for posterity" or "for art". Ho-hum. I make stuff to be enjoyed in the present, by real people, but, more selfishly, by ME! :)

Just an opinion... LOL

Thanks everyone for your opinions. I truly appreciate them. I know my niece likes handmade things and makes stuff herself. For Christmas one year I got my great nephew's "Mistletoes". It was his footprints with his name and year! I do agree though that sometimes the younger generations get things from us older generations that they may not understand, appreciate, or simply not have the room for! I do however think, that my niece would appreciate it and even if she couldn't hang them up, she would keep for the kids to give to when they get older. I just love the three patterns that I looked at and would enjoy stitching them! Boy, can't wait to start having grandkids to do this for! lol but I have a while to wait on that one! In the meantime, like VCESS says I can stitch for myself which I never seem to do!
Thanks, to everyone for their advice & Happy Stitching!

I think that it is never too late to make a sampler. It's something that can be kept always.
