Vacation stitchery
Do you take projects on vacation? I'm taking this one home to Nantucket on Friday. I hope to just relax and sit on the dock, and stitch a bit...but it might just be going for the plane ride.

I do. We spent 3 days driving each way on our vacation, stopping to see family along the way. I did some stitching in the car and when we reached the in-laws we had some down time so I managed to get a fair amount done. That being said I haven't touched that project since we got home 3 weeks ago :) I prefer to take it and not end up doing any than not take it and wish I had. Enjoy your vacation!

I usually take 3-4 small projects with me when I travel. When I was on the bus in Greece we had some stretches that weren't scenic so I stitched and will take some with me when I go to Ireland in the fall - just in case the bus breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Mind you is there anything in Ireland that isn't scenic????

No, thanks! I prefer to experience the "getting there is half the fun", and a fully-loaded Kindle for downtime. What do you go for, if not to SEE, EXPERIENCE, DO & SHARE...You gotta include the "getting there & back"...or you neglect & ignoring a major part of your trip... :) and don't claim you've made the same trip dozens of times! Stuff changes!
Not always for the better, but reality is life! Mind you, I detest those people who can't let a quiet moment pass and intrude mercilessly and will not let you just "absorb" a place, seeing and feeling...hmmm... I may have taken the first grade reader too literally...."STOP, LOOK, LEARN!" :) There was probably a "LISTEN!" in there somewhere....THAT wasn't happening! LOL

I did once but it didn't get unpacked. When I was on holidays it wasn't to do something I do everyday at home.

Stopped taking WIPs on trips. Can't stitch in the car. Found lighting in hotel rooms bad. Planned on doing a lot of stitching during Chemo treatments but found the lighting there was bad also. Now I take blank fabric along and do gridding for future projects. Don't need as much light. Don't have to worry about getting off count if interrupted. Don't have to worry about running out of floss.

Agree Nancye. Only my stitching corner at home checks the boxes I need
for my stitching.

I usually don't get much stitching done but nice to have something along in case you actually have time.

Thanks for the responses! I took it last year, and didn't do a lot, but found it relaxing during our afternoon breaks from shopping, and eating! I guess I am of the I'd rather have it, and not use it, than not have it and wish I did school. Getting to and from Nantucket can be an adventure, delays are normal, and so is fog, lots of fog.

I guess it depends on the kind of vacation you are on. If you're going to be on your own at your summer cottage then it would be a must, if it's a city, hotel, sight seeing ....not really .

When we lived in Spain for about 3 months and here about 3 months and so on, I had double of everything except the current project and my threads. I have three bobbin boxes of threads and each box went into a bag and on ditto on return. I was so fed up putting those bobbins into place x times a year. I didn't count it as a holiday either. A holiday in my books is not having to do the household chores. We just exchanged addresses.

I can't stitch on a plane, car, train either too much going on around me and not the light I need. I envy those who can. I even have trouble reading a book.

I always took about 2-3 projects with me, but I knew ahrad of time not to stitch a single thing if I was at my parents' home (they were 500 miles away). At my brother's house, I had lots of stitching because he saved all of his shirts that needed to have mended or buttons sewed back on. Then when I got there, he'd have me do it...his wife does not sew.
Otherwise, if just the two of us go on a vacation, the cross stitch is always at hand, in case DH goes fishing since the terrain is not kind to grandmas!
