Question regarding back stitch stems on large flowers
Can someone explain backstitch on heavy lines on large flowers of wreath? Directions say to backstitch stems on large flowers. The heavy lines that I see do not look like stems. They look more like arrows on the large flowers. The backstitch lines between the flowers I'm assuming to be vines. Thanks.

I haven't started stitching this pattern, but have been studying it. I, too, feel confused with the directions....which are the stems on the large flowers and which are the vines? Specifically, the directions say: BACKSTITCH STEMS ON LARGE FLOWERS with DMC 3813. The symbol for DMC 3813 is a heavy slash. I see heavy slashes ON the large flowers...what lhratto said look more like arrows. I am interpreting these to be 3 slashes of DMC 3813, but they are clearly NOT STEMS when located on the inner section of the large flowers. I would consider anything outside of the flower to be vines, and stitched in DMC 500. Am I missing where the stems are located on the large flowers?

I have nothing to add but I totally admire you both for tackling that design.

Hi,
Saw your chat and found a website that appears to be for Rosewood charts website.
The website is “rosewoodxstitch.com” (all lowercase).
When I went to it, I believe this is titled, “Baltimore Rose Wedding Sampler.” Also I noticed that this website had a number of ‘corrections’ for the different Rosewood Manor charts, but didn’t see your wedding sampler listed. BUT also on this website there was a person to contact.
Her name is Karen and you can contact her to see if she can help you with the confusion in regards to the back stitching and symbols for the large flower stems, et.
Her e-mail is: “karen.kluba@yahoo.com” and there is a phone number also: 317-574-9186.
Hope this helps. :)

Just putting this ‘chat’ back at the top of ‘chatboard’ in case lhratto returns.....even though it is a 7/6/17 ‘chat’ or others having problems with this design.

I am doing a design for my oldest daughter's wedding this August. After looking at many many designs, we (yes, DH got an equal vote) chose one by Sue Hillis. It is called "Wedding Day". I can easily do the lettering, but the two areas with yellow roses is awful. I seriously may heve to burn it or the daughter (who scared us to death inbher younger years). Can you folks look at it and tell me why I am having such a time? The leaves are fine, it is the roses that look awful. D-A-R-N. Doing it on lighter fabric than in the model, 16 count.

They don't look like roses to me...are you reacting to the dark backstitching on the blossoms? If you dislike the flower, could you find a blossom you like better? Same size? And color? Or, you might experiment with different shadings in the blossoms and color of backstitch. Just tossing ideas...hope something helps. It's a lovely sampler...😊

Well I decided to bite the bullet and stitch the design exactly as directed. I interpreted the heavy arrow like lines inside the large flowers as being flower stems and leaves using one strand of the DMC floss as directed. I interpreted the blue H to be the small flower attached to the stem within the large flower. It looked fine when finished although these mini flowers do not stand out. The piece came out beautiful and I am happy with the results. Thank you for all your suggestions but I did not receeive them until after I completed the piece. Anyway, it did turn out well.
