Counting for the brain
I was just thinking as I count my Art Deco project that we who do counted cross stitch and are "mature" people are really doing our brains a favour. We're giving them a good work out every time we pick up our needle.

Mary, I totally agree and, yes, I'm up way late again tonight and I'm starting to fade. I have been stitching for many years and find that wherever I am stitching on my fabric, I will count and double check my current stitching position against other previously stitched portions on my fabric and compare it to the chart to make sure I am where I should be to avoid a very overwhelming mistake where large portions of stitching have to be removed (I've been there and done that like most experienced stitchers more than I would like to admit). Do you do this too?

Oh yes Ib I definitely count and recount all the time even though my projects are smaller than a lot of you "over there" seem to love tormenting yourselves with lol.

I just finished my birds which is a mega undertaking for me. I'll post a photo when I have it ready for the framers.

As soon as it's done I'm diving into my Christmas things...a few cards...very few...a bookmark or two, maybe, and mini wall hangs from a German Christmas book. The charts are good enough to eat......simple and clean cut. Haven't thought out what do do for the mini grandchildren this year. Whatever it is I write a story about the picture. They are larger but simple wall hangs.

I really like to see the photos of works in progress and completions, so I would love to see your completed project and especially since it is of birds (I love everything animals). Other stitcher's accomplishments definitely inspire me to pick up my own stitching. I have so much stash that I decided earlier this summer to set up a large bunch of my smaller designs knowing that I could start and finish them quicker and also simultaneously decrease my stash, and once I do, I know that I will purchase more stash to replace it (a vicious cycle to say the least). I have many, many cross stitch projects going at once and this does not intimidate me. I feel confident picking up any one of my projects at any time even many months later, but I try to keep the ratio of small, medium, and large projects at certain numbers so I am able to finish projects. Though I have larger fully stitched designs in my stash, I don't set up many of these to stitch at one time since they are very time intensive and require a lot of concentration with more color changing to complete smaller sections because many have 50 plus colors and some up to 90+ with lots of confetti stitching.

I wonder what it means when I can't count to seven ?
I was blaming my new glasses, (long story, I'll just say I will never go back to that particular vision place.) New glasses have been replaced with newer glasses, (that I can actually see out of) so I can't use that excuse anymore.
