How I use it is every 10 spaces like in the pattern directions. So 10 across 10 down. For references I can show oh I'm working on the 4th square down .it can be visually easier to follow when you're doing patterns like vickery with all those crazy colors. Hope that helps. Any one else use this?

Go to this web-site for a video describing how it works.

It took me a while to figure it out but now I always use the procedure to grid my projects, even the smaller ones. The one negative thing I say about it is that the "thread" is too slippery. I started using cotton thread or floss using the technique. I just have to remember not to stitch over thread.

You also can use NYLON fishing line to grid your fabric.
I think it is less slippery and a lot cheaper. Buy 6 or 8 pound line. Be sure that it is not clear, buy colored line. When I first did this, I took some of the "easy count guideline" with me to the sporting goods shop and felt different fishing lnes for comparison.
Don't worry...it is impossible to stitch into fishing line. It is not woven.

WoW This is so helpful
I love cross stitch but hate the tedious counting
I really like the fishing line ideas
Thank you all so much for responding

I agree directions and video are not the best. Picture you have does not have the whole grid. Video shows holding cloth in lap but I don't use a scroll. Mine is on the q-snap frame when I grid it and is much faster and easier to do. Each block should be 10 x 10 squares just like your pattern. It is so easy to find any spot on your project. Hope this helps you.

I tried the fishing line this weekend. I love it but you're right it must be color. I bought a bluish color and my next project is on a storm blue oops
