Changing count on a pattern
I found this pattern that I fell in love with but it's a 18 count and I prefer to do it on 14 count. How drastic does the pattern change if I did it as 14 count?

If done on 18 ct. it is 13 x 20 inches. If you do it on 14 ct. it is 16.7 x 25.7 inches. This is a Dimensions kit and they use their own brand of floss not DMC. If you increase the size you will need more floss and what comes with the kit will not be enough for the project. Hope this helps.

Hi Bonnie,
This is what my calculations are. I'll give you the numbers to check it. The calculator I used is on "crossstitch.com" website.
On the original 18-count fabric size of the 13" wide x 20" high' stocking:
1) stitch count: 234 wide x 360 high
2) going "over one"

On 14-count fabric:
1) stitch count: 182 wide x 280 high
2) going "over one"
** 3) completed project size will be:
16 3/4" wide x 25 3/4" high

If you add 3" of extra fabric on EACH side for hemming
And such you will need a 14-count piece of fabric
That is 19" wide by 26" high.
I am a believer in always checking calculations 2-3 times before ordering fabric and checking project 'complete project size' calculations before Cutting fabrics.
" It is better to take the few minutes to check than to suffer the disappointment of being short fabric" Bermuda's motto!
I am NOT an employee of Everything Cross Stitch but one of the stitchers on this ECS 'chat board' that saw your question! :)

Syagel is correct regarding needing more floss if you do 14 count. You might want to consider conversion of the kit floss to DMC. But your conversion is a choice and as Syagel said, if you runout of the Dimensions floss you will need to contact Dimensions for getting extra floss if you run short.
Syagel's 14-count stocking measurements confirms my measurements. Thanks Syagel! :)

If I was planning to change the fabric in a kit from 18 to 14 count, I would consult a conversion chart and replace all the provided floss with DMC to ensure adequate amount is available.
You can find one at www.cyberstitchers.Com or you can do an Internet search for "dimensions to dmc floss conversion chart"
