New Patterns
I have just looked at the new release of patterns and there are finally some nice ones that I would be interested in buying. I did notice that one of them called "Soft Gray" and a very pretty cat picture is stitched all over but is stitched on black aida. My question is if you are going to stitch all over why would you use black aida surely an off-white or cream material would be better? Your opinion please.

Deidre, If I were you I'd choose a light beige or off-white fabric. I know from working on 14 count that the white can be seen in places where the black stitches are so I assume that the black fabric will show through under the white stitches and there are a lot of them!

My opinion is you would have to be nuts to stitch this on black! Project specifications call for fabric color of choice--no color will show through...just a boo-boo in the materials needed listing... :)

I recently started a project that will be stitched all over and done on black Aida. The background is navy blue on black and I realized very soon that I couldn't manage that so I ordered a light box. It arrived and I was still having a terrible time so I switched to an off-white Aida and started over again. I'm using two strands of the navy blue and there is a little white showing between the stitches. My only suggestion would be to use three strands of floss when you stitch "Soft Gray" and I think that should cover the fabric completely. (Wish I'd thought of that earlier!)

Yes it just seemed a bit pointless to me when you can get the same result with less wear and tear on your eyes by using a pale piece of material.

Seniorstitcher, I'm sure when you get a bit of distance between you and the project...at least more than the 12 inches you're looking at now...the "coverage" will be fine. I think all this extra floss is not really necessary...it will be great! :)

Good question!

That is a pretty pattern. It actually says any color fabric will do under the description. I agree black would make you blind. If I was at all worried I might use a very light gray aida but I'm sure cream would also work fine.

VCESS: Thank you for your encouraging words. I have looked at my project many times and wondered if I should frog all that navy blue and start all over again. That alone has put a lot of distance between me and the project - it's been sitting there for days and I haven't added one stitch! I'm going to continue and hope for the best. Thank you again.

That is a good idea of yours Le-Anne as the pattern seems to have a lot of gray in it. I will probably get a soft gray to stitch it on. Hey Ho another one for the stash of projects fighting to be completed.

Hi Senior, would it break the bank to bin it all and begin from the start? I know I sometimes I let my sense of thrift overrule the practicalities of the matter and especially when it comes to floss and fabric. 😒
