After completing 20 of the above patterns I handed them to a friend to make into a quilt for my sister-in-law for Christmas. On Monday she came to the office where I work and showed me the progress she had made. IT IS GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!! She still has to put on 2 more border bands and then she will quilt and back it. I can hardly wait to see the completed quilt. It will be better than I thought it would be. And I will stitch up the patterns I got from Nancye and make them into pillows and cushions to match for next Christmas as her Birthday is in January and there is no chance of me doing it by then. If I can work out how to load a picture into this sight I will try and get one on so everyone can see and admire my friend's work. It is definitely one of a kind.

What a great idea to make a quite from a number of patterns. I've done tree skirts, but I think a quilt would be another option. I'm lucky that when I was 10 my mother got me into a 4-H sewing club in the small town we lived in, so I can do my own sewing. I have seen a number of afghans that have cross-stitched patterns, but never thought of a quilt - duh!

Deirdre,
I would love to see pics or pics in progress. I wonder how she does it. Does she attached the cross stitched piece onto a piece of fabric and then add borders? This is a wonderful idea and can be done for a baby or wedding or anything really!

She has done it as if you are sewing the "Log Cabin" pattern using various patterns in black and white. We originally had said we were going to pick a colour from each picture and edge them all in the chosen colours but when she tried it she said it looked tacky and decided to go with just variations of black and white. She is going to back the quilt with a plain black material. I can't wait to see the final quilt.
