Cross stitch/embroidery equipment
My daughter does a large amount of cross stitching. She has always used the basic hoop. I have seen several of the stands - lap stands, a double hoop that can sit on your lap, etc. I was hoping to get your recommendations regarding the piece of equipment that has worked the best for you? Thanks so much!

I love my roller frame which sits on my lap stand (C- shaped, slides under the legs from left side- very adjustable). This frees up both hands for stitching, guiding the thread to prevent tangling, etc. Works for me!😀

Thanks so much! Is it self basting or do you need to baste both ends?

Not sure what you mean- is what self-basting?

I think she's talking about sewing the piece to the rods. I do not...I use the American Dream non-baste method. It uses a Velcro-type tape applied to the fabric and rods...works beautifully for me... :) It's the only scrollbars I've found that hold the fabric taut.
But I don't care for stands...the angle/reach is never right for me...I'm too short, or fat, or the reach bothers my shoulders, or my wrist doesn't bend right...can't get comfy. :)

My roller frame has plastic snaps that hold the fabric in place over the rollers. Have had no problem in keeping the fabric taut. With hoops there is a lot of stress on the fabric and stitches because of the constant movement : a roller frame eliminates most of this. But each to his ( or her) own: it's all about what works best for you!

I primarily use Q-snaps and hold the frame by my left hand so the right hand/arm supports. They have been on the market long enough to convert a lot of raised-on-the-hoop stitchers.

I have a good-sized floor stand that I love. The nicest thing in the world of stitching is that
1) it found a new use for PVC pipe other than plumbing
2) it has attracted folks who want to branch out and the
online stores that carry so much cross-stitch and
accessories!
