Needleworks
Some lady was asking what it means 2 over one? (( 2 strands of floss over the fabric that has just one thread or a hole.)) When I was about 8 years old my late mother introduced me to a small needlework piece which it use to have a design of a house. In my family do not just sit and do nothing but you have to get occupied with something to do. We were at the beach at that time. I had learned how to needlework and embroidery then the cross stitch I had learned in school from nuns . So I combine what I had learned in school and what my mom had taught me as Needlework to do the cross stitch too. My paternal side grand ma use to know how to tatte and crochet. But my maternal grand ma use to like to read. The magazine which she use to have had a supplement in french with full of pictures (( Intimite )) use to be in bookstore around the country biweekly.

he use to buy the french magazine to occupied her time from france

What a lovely warm memory. My first "stitching" was done on those perforated cards that you stitched with a shoelace. Fast forward 20 years and a neighbour lady showing me how to make a bathmat out of two floor cloths and knotting the wool through the weave over a piece of wood with an indentation for cutting the wool. Then came knotting a medium sized throw rug which took me through 2 babies. After it was finally done the lady downstairs introduced me to cross stitching. The rest is 50 + year’s of total enjoyment with the needle.

my mother's mother always did beautiful embroidery and wanted so many times to teach me but that art never interested me for some reason. I know I hurt her feelings and for that I am very sorry. About 23 years ago my mother gave me a small Christmas ornament to cross stitch and I was hooked. I did up that ornament in one evening and this is no joke - the first day after Christmas that the stores were open (back then store owners valued their employees and families) I drove the 60 mile round trip and bought 3 or 4 more projects. Then I found a pattern book in JoAnn's I think it was and it had several larger projects and of course I had to do most of them. It amazes me how far cross stitch patterns have come since then and thanks to ECS and Stoney Creek I always have an order coming to my home. I always have a wip sitting beside the larger one I am working on. And who would have thought back then how lucky we would all be to have this wonderful chat board. Thank you so much ECS for having this so we chatters can visit and learn from each other. Love you all.

I loved reading those stories of how you got interested in Stitching. I started doing it because my friend was
Then I didn't for about 20 years. Started again last year when I retired. I finally quit smoking and needed something to do with my hands. I am definitely hooked.

It’s definitely a good substitute for the nasty cigarette surt. My quitting had also something to do with stitching. I'd light up and then go to my stitching and when I next went to have a puff it had smoked itself out. I figured that this was a much too expensive way to imbibe so I quit .
