GRRRR!!!!!!!!!
Now it's my turn to be unwell. I have somehow manged to injure my back (and we all know what that's like). I went to see my doctor and was told I could not see him as he was booked up until the middle of January!! Now what doctor has patients that can tell him they are going to be unwell in January???? I ended up seeing the practice nurse the next day and she took tests and gave me medication to take for the next 6 days. So we will see if things improve. I told the secretary that one had to be dead to see the doctor and even them one would probably have to wait in line to seem the doctor!! Was not amused but I was angry as I don't go anywhere near hospital unless it is something that is serious.

The same thing happened to my sister last year. Took for ever to get in to see a back doctor. Did end up having surgery last Feb. and is doing so much better. Hers was the pinched nerve and everything involved so could not avoid the surgery. I sure hope your problem can be resolved easily. Try to take it easy!

Alternate ice and heat to the affected area several times per day. Ice to help bring down any swelling/inflammation and heat stimulates blood flow to help healing.
Ice or heat for approx 15 minutes at a time.
Rest as much as you can, but don't forget to move too.

I wonder if it was his wife, mother, daughter-would they have to wait. I try not to be negative but back pain is not something that you want to experience. I hope that the medication gives you some relief. Sending good wishes and thoughts your way.

I feel for you Deirdre. I’m still working on my bad back experience from 6 weeks ago. My doctor has been working with me on it the past 3 weeks. Is it the lower back and are you getting pain down the back of one of your legs?
I agree to do the heat on that area, especially if you can
Stand in the shower and let hot water pour directly on the area.

So sorry to hear about your back going and the frustration of getting into see the doctor around the holidays. I worked in scheduling for a doctor's office for 25 to 30 years. The doctors today do not seem to schedule the way they used to and the way it should be done anymore. We "always" had saved spots called "acute" to schedule problems just like you are describing. Doctors offices always have "unplanned" emergencies and this is what the saved spots are held for. These problems need no explanation and can happen obviously at any time of the day. The problem today is that the doctors have to justify for every minute they are in the office and it is usually due to corporate greed and the management that oversees the profitability of the doctor's office---this problem existed when I was scheduling but seems to have gotten much worse. I used to get emergency patients walking up to my desk when I was closing the books for the day, many of the practice doctors were gone to the hospital to do rounds, and all scheduled appointments as well as office hours were over. Since acute problems can happen any time, the only other resource for us as patients who cannot get an appointment when we need it, is to see a walk in or urgent care clinic. I do hope you recover quickly and will not even be thinking about your back once the holidays arrive (-:

And now to top the week off I have just been called away from my shift at the supermarket by the police as DH had collapsed on the way home from the office. They called the ambulance and came and got me. On arriving I found him on a stretcher in the ambulance while they discussed with him whether he should go to hospital. After a brief discussion I made the decision that he went to hospital to see why he had collapsed. He will call me in the morning to let me know how he has got on but I don't think we will be going to the trots on Saturday to see his horse race unless he can satisfy me he is alright. Ah well these things were sent to try us!!

Deirdre, thoughts and prayers for both you and your husband. I sure hope all turns out ok. Yes, it seems as though we are tried with all of these "things" throughout life, but have faith that all will work out ok. Think good things and positive outlooks will help.

Oh boy, that’s unbelievable that you have to wait so long. I’ve had back problems since I was in my twenties and that’s an era ago but always went to a physio for it and got fixed. Since I began my rehab training two years ago and do that twice a week at the same physio place I’ve not had any problems (touch wood)

Hope you’re better for Christmas 🎄.

Sorry to hear about all this going on. Prayers for you and your DH. Hope you get some relief from your back problem. I don’t know but it seems that not nice situations happen in groups of threes. Well, you and your DH have had your 3, so think positive and, of course, ‘baby steps’. :)

Sorry Bermuda apparently things come in fours for me. DH rang me this morning and told me the CT scan has shown he has had a stroke which is causing his imbalance. We don't know when he will be out of hospital but it might not be until after Christmas so everything is up in the air at the moment. I was supposed to be cooking lunch but I don't think that is going to happen as I don't drive and getting out to the farm could be a problem. Anyway I will probably be at the hospital with DH so I can't be in two places at once.
