This stand is made to use with hoops and scroll frames. I have this frame and to me it works better with scroll frames than with hoops. The only problem is the clamp doesn't hold the rods tight enough, I put some rubber bands around each clamp and that did the trick.

Is this really necessary ??

I use this exact floor stand for all my projects (being I never make anything small ). I got it when I first went to scroll frames, until I discovered Q-Snaps. Now I just put my Q-Snaps right in the groove & tighten it down. If it is still loose, I have put a clean dish cloth on the top of the Q-Snap, then tighten it. Works like a charm, & you have both hands free.

In answer to your question esterfb1211 the rods with fabric on will slip and the rubber bands make the clamp grip without slipping, hoops will slip sometimes too.

Well, you could buy the ones designed for large projects...they typically run $250-$300 plus attachments...😊

When using a frame such as this, how do you access the back of your work? I'm constantly flipping mine to the back to secure threads, check for knots, and of course un-tying said knots.

I loosen the top knob and lift what I working on up to get to the back

To answer the question about getting to the back of the work:. The top part that holds the frame, or in my case, the Q-Snaps, is on a swivel, so it can be turned sideways, so the back is exposed, & you can end your floss through a few stitches, get a knot out, or put your needle through the loop to start. The screw can be tightened or loosened, whatever you need, as it's just a screw with a wing nut attached. I've never had a problem getting to the back of a piece.
Word of advice to the original poster Agnes:
Don't try to get your whole 30 by 40 inch project on to one frame, as it would be impossible to reach the backside. Instead, you can move your frame, (whatever you use, hoop, scroll frame, or Q-Snaps) around & work a smaller area, which would be much easier to manage.
Good luck.
