I wonder
Have you ever noticed that if you are not stitching a kit but are stitching a pattern using your own stash you tend not to be as precious with the thread? I have found that I am not using the thread down to the last inch, whereas when I am doing a kit I treat very piece of thread as if it is gold especially if I have to redo a section due to an error in stitching. Just a thought in the wilderness of stitching "Sweet Rememberance" - 800 stitches completed and counting.

Yep, I am the same. Last 2 kits I did, I was certain I was going to run short of a couple of colours so I was very careful about tossing the last bits of floss. Stitching from my stash, not so much as I know I have enough. Mary

I'm not as conservative with kit thread anymore - depending upon the manufacturer. I have done so many Dimension kits (before I found this site of such wonderful patterns!) that I have lots of leftover threads. I have never run out before a kit was completed, and usually have extra in every color - must be the way I stitch - always looking for the most "economical" path to stitch. But you are correct that I don't worry as much with my stash and patterns since I know I can always replace easily if I run short.

I don't worry when I am using my stash and I find it much more relaxing to stitch when I am not worried about running out of floss.

I don't buy kits anymore! Their quality of fabric and floss has definitely gone down over the years-- yes, even Dimensions. Now that I know about ECS I can find more than enough to stitch AND I can pick my own material (usually linen--99% of the kits just have Aida). Lovin ' this site!!!!!

I don't buy kits any more too. don't like the thread that comes with it. it feels funny and such weird colors. like its second hand or something yuck. I prefer dmc haven't tried the new Sullivan yet.

Every once in a while I will buy a kit (on sale of course) just to get the design. When I started, I had no idea about kits, quality of needles, or quality of thread. On a couple of kits, I barely got them done and I was thinking "am I going to have enough thread (didn't even call it floss). Then I woke up to the fact that there were patterns to buy and quality of thread . So now since I have to order, sometimes I order one extra if I think I might be low. Wow, Deirdre-800 stitches. Can't wait to see the finished project. Pam

The last kit I bought was about 8 years ago to get the printed fabric. It was oriental-styled, and I wanted to incorporate some asian coins into it. Wonder where I put it...

DEIDRE -- DO NOT BUY KITS! I have 1007 full skeins and over 1300 partial. Every once in a while I run out of something with only a few more stitch to go. It is always a color that I don't have in my stash. GRRRRRRR

Nancye I have to confess I have a LARGE stash of kits in my chest of drawers that I have purchased over the years. This happened because in my innocence I didn't realise I could buy patterns only and the company I was buying from has mainly kits. Needless to say since I discovered ECS the world in my oyster and I am buying more patterns than I know what to do with. But it's fun and gives me pleasure to decide which one to do as I complete one. As I stitch Sweet Rememberance I will be getting one them out and stitching them as I can't keep stitching SR as it is on 18 count material and my eyesight is not what it used to be.

To be honest -- My eyesight is not what it ever was. I've been extremely myopic for more than 60 years!
