Easy Guide Charting
Help! I'm working on a new project from a 1995 DMC pattern, King Henry and his wives. As the figures are spaced out in the design a friend recommended I "chart" the fabric with the Easy Guide red line. I've never done this before but could definitely see the benefit to finding my place on the fabric. I was anxious to start and so just used 14lb red fishing line from WalMart. However now the actual Easy Guide line has finally arrived and I noticed that it is about half the thickness of the fishing line I used. Is this going to be a problem? Will the "holes" still shrink back to size when I wash my project? This is what happens when you get in a hurry... Thanks!

Welcome, ladybug! Does the fabric feel distorted? of course I wouldn't stitch over the fishing line...too distorting to stitches, but you don't mention the fabric type and that might make a difference...hmmm....I think if I didn't want to start all over, I would remove the fishing line as I stitched to it, releasing the fabric to relax to weave. If that didn't let the weave norma!ize, I would start over with the ezstitch. Sorry, sounds like a bother, I know! 😊 I hope someone has a better idea! 😊

I use 6lb red fishing line for the projects that I grid. Could never see the sense of getting Easy Guide, when I have the fishing line already. (That's the only fishing line I like, which my DH doesn't understand, but I did catch four Walleye, to his two on this last trip, lol.)
I would think that 14lb line would be too hard to get all your stitches into the same hole. I'm sure the fabric holes would shrink back after washing, but I believe it might be difficult to stitch. I think I would remove the thick line, & redo your gridding. The one good thing, is that you will probably take a lot less time in regridding, as you will more than likely be able to see the right holes to use. You can always do a small square section in the margins, of maybe five or six squares, to see how it would stitch, before you go to all the trouble if re-doing everything.
Good luck

Darn! I used 14lb as that was all they had in red (and I couldn't see the other colors against the fabric). I'm using 18ct Aida. Preferred linen but my vision isn't the best anymore :( even with 3x magnifying glasses! Not to mention I always start from the middle, its just the way I taught myself in the Army 30 years ago. Guess I'll be re-charting tonight... I am beginning to think this project is doomed. I've tried working with 3 different pcs of fabric (charting all 3 I might add) before I settled on the 18ct Aida! 25 ct, 14 ct, and finally the 18ct! Thanks for the advice ladies :)~
