saddiks1949, to the best of my knowledge there is really no way to anchor bookmarks. I would stitch mine "free hand", meaning without using a hoop or frame. You could probably use a very small hoop but only the top and bottom would be anchored.

If your plan is to fashion your own bookmarks then you can use a frame or hoop by using a large enough piece of material. When you have completed the stitching you can then cut the material to size and finish the bookmark however you choose.

Hi there

I had learned how to do needlework when I was just 8 years old. My mom had taught me at home then I learned the cross stitch from nuns in school. I never had used a hoop or a frame to start them
but you can use your index to roll the material over it from your left hand and stitch with the right that is how I had learned.

When I have done bookmarks I have used a very small spring tension hoop. Works great for holding fabric.

syagel, are you referring to the ready made bookmarks or a piece of fabric that has to be finished? I've never done fancy ones, just names and flowers for my granddaughters. I usually used the ready made ones and tried to do a really clean back. It never occurred to me to use a hoop but nothing says that one can't.

Texas Stitcher I use a hoop for both kinds of bookmarks. It works either way. I use a hoop for everything. I tried not using a hoop once on a small project and it was not comfortable or good.
