Australia???
Just for information of others ... this is only the "mainland". Please note that the island state of Tasmania has been left off the picture. Is this actually the case, or just the photo online? It is a major oversight if it is actually NOT included!

This pattern is done by Pegasus Originals, Inc. and they only did the mainland of Australia per se on their pattern. They did the same thing with the pattern of the African continent. On that one they left off the Island country of Madagascar. The one they did of The United States doesn't show Alaska or Hawaii either. Obviously the designer doesn't know their geography.

Well- the series is called "The Continents" series. When I was in school ( a hundred years ago) only the large land masses were identified as continents. Anyone else ?

Well, it's Mike Vickery & he's very detailed. However I bet the series is meant to show off the natural beauty and wildlife. Artistic, not cartographic.

Guess my school was different. That was how I knew about Madagascar without looking it up. We learned all the continents and all islands connected with them. That was almost 50 years ago. Oh man am I old! LOL

Miss Kitty is correct. Continents are land masses. Countries are political masses.

I agree with the statements of Miss Kitty and jlhewes; although, I understand your point syagel.
I'm thinking that since this graph is not a specific map, but an outline containing indigenous natural beauty, that having included the Tasmanian land mass might have thrown off the artistic balance of the picture.
But, if I wanted Tasmania included I would free-hand an outline of it on graph paper then transfer it onto my cross stitch piece using the same type of outline stitching as was used on the main continent. Maybe even design a basic flower/leaf that is specific to Tasmania in the center of its outline. Just a thought. :-)

Great idea, okcindy, I'm sure the people of Tasmania would not like to be ignored.

syagel, it might have been 50 years ago but the bright side is that you still remember!

jlhewes, you are correct that countries are political masses or is it "messes"? LOL

Seriously, though, I think islands should be included at least when they are inhabited. Look at Japan or Hawaii for instance.

I've done maps before, when I first began stitching and am glad that I moved on to other things. My son probably threw them away by now. Actual cartography is more attractive to me.
