This site doesn't do pdfs. They have one called patternsonline that does, & a Google search might turn up more.

FYI. Actually "Blackwork". Imaginating is mixed up. Difference is not the color. " Redwork" is stem-stitched figures like Sun Bonnet Sue, or others traditionally stitched on quilt squares. "Blackwork" is an outline (double-running or Holbein) design with little designs, or motifs, filling in the outline. Classic Blackwork was reversible & used to imitate lace on cuffs & collars. The original colors are no longer required. Both can be done in any color, or several colors. I have a beautiful pine tree done in several shades of solid & overdye greens. Also, an Italian cathedral using a rich brown. Don't like "Red work" but had to do some for a charity auction quilt once.

Very cute snowman!

I've done this snowman-- it is an easy pattern and turns out very cute.

jlhewes, you know your stuff - I haven't heard the term Holbein in at least 40 years. The snowman is cute.

Same as "double running", reversible. I usually do a " running back," since backstitch is boring, & shows through on some linens. Go forward when facing a corner, or direction change. Straight BS when going straight on.

Boy! This "Redwork" is a pretty foreign concept to many. I've been searching the web a little. 123 Stitch has one called Redwork Quilt, where at least the center is redwork.

I've just been introduced to the latest revival: "Chicken Scratching", a new/old thing I can live without. Sure is a lot of types of stitching out there, many from the past best forgotten.

Although I am a curious person and like to learn new things, I just don't think that I'd be interested in the Chicken Scratching stitch. It doesn't sound appealing. You are right, some things are best left in the past.

Everything you girls are talking about is making me scratch my head and say "HUH?". I heard of chicken scratching, I saw a video on YOUTUBE showing how to do it and I say NO, I don't think so. I can live without it too.

In quilting Redwork is a pattern where you embroider stamped pieces all in red and then put fabric borders and sashes on them and do the quilting by "stitching in the ditch". I have never done a Redwork quilt but I have seen some really beautiful ones. I have seen a couple really pretty ones of Sunbonnet Sue in Redwork. I have also seen them in Blackwork and Bluework. Just like my cross stitch pattern supply I have lots of quilting patterns. Need to get my act together to get my stuff done. LOL

This snowman pattern is really cute.

Chicken Scratching I am unfamiliar with so may have to check it out.
