It's a pattern only. Full crosses & every square stitches. Model on 14-ct Aida, but dimensions for 18 or 22 count. I would suggest an ecru or beige Aida, so little white spots don't show between stitches.

If you want to save on stitching get the dark material as the picture. Good luck. ad start from the middle as you do for cross stitching.

This is one pattern that even though it has a lot of dark background I would not use a dark fabric. I would do like jlhewes says and use a beige or ecru color. There is too many different dark colors to use a dark fabric. They would not stand out. This is just my suggestion.
