I'd think it means that instead of going from one hole to the next (at a diagonal) that you'd stitch over 2 holes. So count over 2 holes up 2 holes and do a stitch. Although then why you wouldn't just use Aida 11 instead of 22 I'm not sure.

Exactly that was my thought process but it didnt make sense

I was thinking the same. How many strands of floss does it say to use? It would make partial stitches easier to work. But I'm thinking that 11 ct would look more attractive.
We have to wait until the experts weigh in.

the 22 count would make it look more like working on linen so maybe that's the intent. I personally like working on linen much better than Aida of any kind. I don't like the look of the holes. I just started using mostly only linen about 4 years ago. I always thought it would be too hard to do but frankly it's really not hard at all and the look is more attractive to me. It's really all a personal choice though.

I see and I totally agree on all counts! :) Especially the personal choice. I, too, was so afraid of linen and wonder why now.

Maybe that's how they deal with part stitches? Be sure to do a test patch to get number of floss strands needed.

They must mean Hardanger. It's 22 count, but a different weave than Aida. They have 20 count Aida at ECS, but I've never heard of 22 count.

Interesting, jl. I haven't stitched on Aida in many years and as the saying goes: use it or lose it! LOL Hope that I got that one right. I'm sure that you are correct and it is Hardanger. I vaguely remember the fabric from the botched table cloth my daughter worked on. She was off one thread. Don't know how it happened. Poor gridding I'm sure! :)

in reference to your note about aida & seeing the holes.. the lady @ the shop I use told me, even though everything says to use 2 strands of floss on 14 ct, to use 3 strands.. when I asked why, she said because it fills the hole better than 2 strands..

try it and see what you think..

on small things I sometime use 2, but on big projects I use 3 strands..
recently experimenting w/ 4 strands on 11 ct; compared to 3 on 11 ct it's not even close.. definitely makes a difference.
happy stitching..

dbye, now is the time to get that laying tool! LOL I'm still fooling around with this one project - 18 ct linen (rough as can be) and 4 strands of floss. I hate it. jl is correct about the laying tool. To make this look halfway nice requires too much patience. I only like to work with 2 strands.

I think my printer went out. I need a new garbage disposer, just don't have the time. It takes 5 hours at Lowe's to get a work order going for someone to come out. Well, I still have tons of stuff to do.

Happy stitching!
