Fabric
I purchased the fabric you suggested for this stocking, however, if I stitch over two threads as the pattern instructions state, their will not be enough fabric. The design will be edge to edge with no room for a seam allowance when cut out.

did you purchase the 18 ct linen? generally on 18 count you do not stitch over 2 threads.

I did purchase the 18 count. I used the DMC pearl cotton #5 over 1 thread and it was so thick so I thought that I needed to do over two threads as the pattern states. Perhaps I will have to use DMC floss. I just bought all the pearl cotton. Ugh!

Hi Elklake,
You said you did buy the 18 inch by 27 inch 18-count fabric? I'm asking just so I know if you have the correct size of the 18-count fabric. Is this a kit or just a pattern?
If so, I'm not quite sure why you don't have enough fabric for the stocking....
If you are continuing to get 'stuck" on this situation, I would recommend calling the manufacturer listed on the packaging and see if they can help you out...
Hope this helps!

I bought the fabric suggested with the pattern which is Wichelet Imports 18 ct. Linen, natural light (13"x18"). When you read the pattern it states to use 18"x24". It looks like someone goofed at everything cross stitch.

The finished size of the pattern on an 18" linen, using up one and over one thread will be 6.4" x 9.2". The suggested material size is a 13" x 18". That leaves more than three inches all the way around the stitched pattern. There was no error in calculating that by Everything Cross Stitch. If you choose to stitch up two and over two on the 18 count linen then you would need to buy a larger piece of material. That change is made on your part and you should have adjusted your purchase to reflect that change.

if the pattern said to do it over two threads, they may have been referring to 28 ct linen, which works out to be the same as 14 ct.

pearl cotton thread is much thicker than dmc floss ... if you still want to use the pearl cotton, you might need a larger count aida, like 14 ct or 11 ct ... just do the calculations and you can by it off the bolt

If you look at the pattern from Shepherd's Bush -Lula's stocking, it clearly states to use 18 ct natural linen - Wechelt. Stitch count 115 x 165. Cut size 18" x 24". On the site where the pattern is sold, the suggested fabric is Wechelt Imports 18 ct linen, natural light - 13" x 18". This is what i bought along with the pattern. I would have had no way of knowing the size of linen to purchase. I trusted the site to sell me the correct size. Someone needs to check this out!

Maybe you could be a little kinder and contact customer service at the top of the page instead of using the chat room to air your displeasure.

123 stitch says to use an 18 x 27 piece of natural linen & stitch over 2 with #5 pearl cotton. They usually know what they're talking about. I' sure ECS customer service will help you out with the correct size linen.
