Most of the Rosewood Manor projects call for the overdyed flosses, which run $2.50 for a short skein. I've changed colors, using some overdyed and some DMC. One pattern had an awful salmon-y color for the grid. I used an overdyed that had lots of jewel-tones and used DMC in the squares to cut down on the cost. You might find a conversion chart somewhere of approximate colors.
