Fabric choice
The recommended fabric for this pattern is 14 count white but with 28 skeins of 310 black in the supply list could i just use a black fabric?

Hi,
I don't see why not. I have opted to use black fabric on some of my projects rather than stitch a black background. I would suggest if you decide to use black fabric, you make a "working"copy of your original chart and carefully "outline" the subject matter so you can see where your stitches are suppose to begin and/or end and the black areas begin.

Keep in mind also, that it can be difficult to see the stitching "squares" on black material. When I cross stitch on black fabric, I have a good light and put a white pillowcase or white sheet on my lap to assist in showing up the "holes" in the fabric.

Thanks.. This pattern "speaks" to me but I'm not crazy about stitching a black background..I might change my mind when i get the pattern, stitching on black fabric could detract from the whole picture, but I appreciate the hints for stitching on black. Barb

I would definitely use black fabric for this project. Using 28 skeins to fill in white fabric really seems like a lot of work and cost for nothing when you can use black fabric and it would be just as pretty I think..

I agree with Syagel. I would do it on black fabric so I wouldn't waste my time with all those skeins of black! Also, by using black fabric you avoid having "peek-a-boo" white from the fabric color showing through or past your black cross stitches. I found that the picture on black really makes the design "pop".

Would it be a good idea to increase the stitch count to 16 or 18 to ensure good coverage with all those beiges and pale colors? Or maybe increase to 3 strands of floss on the 14? It seems to be a very popular pattern....at least verbally. Has anybody worked it on black? Could have been another moon that I remember them discussing on black.....these moons are mesmerizing. :)

Just a thought...Maybe if you used the black aida, you could scatter little "stars" in the background with a silvery metallic thread?
