ambitious, but beautiful!

if you've never created a pattern from a picture, I'd suggest starting smaller

have you looked up the subject? maybe there already is a pattern out there ... definitely of the landscape; you might have to add the storm yourself

I seem to be negative; perhaps it just is beyond me

don't forget, you should get the photographer's permission to use the photo

Would you need permission for private use? I know if you sold it, yes, you would. But private use? Momcat?

I lived in AZ for 50+ years. Miss the summer monsoons, but not the 120 heat! We used to sit outside and watch the lightning until it got too close, then boogie inside. The huboobs were my favourite part of the summer!!! I remember them as a child as they engulfed downtown! Anyways.... stitch carefully and enjoy the journey!!!!

p.s. For the rest of you... an haboob is the name for a large, rolling dust storm. They can be grand, frightening, beautifully dangerous, and just plain awesome!!!! Often, they are followed by a monsoon storm, but can be dry instead. And very, VERY dangerous to drive through!!!!!

lpnbarnes-

I have used the pic2pat three times but have not stitched from it yet. One image was my cat and the others were two close up photos my sister took of two sea otters and an ocelot at the zoo. I found that your image has to be a certain format for it to work and also a certain size for it to work properly, so you may have to fool with it to get it right like I did. I had to convert my image to a pdf file first for it to work.

Yes this is a very ambitious project but you could also crop the picture to remove some of the sky and greenery foreground to make it more manageable to stitch. I am not sure about the permission aspect of things which is something you would have to look into.

Also, I have not used the pic2pat in a long time and now remember that you are offered different size designs to pick from using your image as well as how many DMC thread colors you would like to use (I think they offer numerous choices on the number of thread colors to pick from it's not completely your choice) which enables you to somewhat adjust the level of difficulty.

The instant that I saw this, I knew it was AZ! My oldest daughter lives in AZ, outside of Phoenix quite a bit. The rock formations remind me so much of photos she has taken all over the state! This would be a gorgeous and challenging cross stitch! You can do it, lpnbarnes!

FYI: pic2pat.com is...................AWESOME!!! It made a chart for me!! Haven't printed it yet but am excited to know they are there!!

Su Pitt: where does daughter live? I was in Avondale, Goodyear, Surprise and Tolleson!

lpnbarnes!
My daughter is in Prescott Valley. She just finished moving a dump truck load of planting soil by wheelbarrows full to a lot of raised veggie beds she made by herself! She loves it there! Grows lots of flowers, but this is her first attempt at vegetables. She had both 100° weather and snow in the last two weeks!
She came back to Northern California for her sister's graduation from university in May 2014.
I haven't been in AZ since my childhood, but my granddaughter and great-grandson are there in Phoenjx.

I was at my cardiologist's office this past Tuesday. His waiting room was filled with all these gray-haired older people. I noticed no midle-agers, but then it struck me...I am old, too! LOL....
