Symbols in cross stitch
When I got ready to do this cross stitch I found that there are symbols on the pattern that are not listed on the instructions and symbols key for design page.
I found seven symbols and would like to know if anyone else has had this problem and what was the solution. The following are the symbols I found missing on the key design page:

symbol that looks like a paragraph sign
small o
small a with a dot over it
symbol that looks like an anchor
small dot
Capital E
small 2 dots at top of square

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It is frustrating to get ready to start a project and discovering this kind of problem. More than likely, all of the copies of this pattern are defective. Try contacting White Willow and asking them to fix the pattern and send you a corrected copy.

I agree with Nancy G. I would contact White Willow if I were you and explain the mistake before I started the project. They should be able to send you a correct pattern. Cute pattern.

I ran into the same problem, not once, but twice. Different designers both times. One from "Told ina Garden" was resolved almost immediately by the desiner's daughter, who was happy to revise the chart. The other one was from Europe and I got no response when I contacted the USA distributor, except that the person that I spoke with knew nothing about cross stitch! But, the customer service people at the online shop were able to get a corrected design in less than a week! I think that only two chart malfunctions in 63+ years of stitching is great testament to how hard designers do try to make all charts correct and readable...

Could those.be fractal stitches?? Fractal are 1/4, half stitches, 3/4stitches. I am not real familiar with them but the project I am currently working on had these little strange markings in some of the squares. I was going to ignore them until these ladies told me what they were for. Maybe someone will see your post and will be able to explain better.than I can. Good luck!

Hello vickigetman64,

I pulled up the file for the pattern that you are posting about and I don't see any of the symbols you mentioned at all, besides the anchor? I don't see them in the chart or in the color key? Do you have an area where you see them specifically on the chart? Maybe just give me a page number and the symbol that you see on the chart but not on the color key? I only just see the anchor and not any of the others you mentioned so I just want to make sure I have all of the information correct before I contact White Willow. Thank you so much!

I first noticed them on pages 1 & 2 when I started looking over the pattern. They are around the eye area on page 1. The "E" is below left ear toward the middle. The small o is at the top of page 2-row 72. They are also on pages 3 & 4 also.

Around eye area on page 1: Paragraph symbol, "a" with dot on top of it, anchor symbol, small dot, double dot at top of square, plus and minus symbol.
Capita "E" below left ear toward middle of page
small "o" on top of page 2 -row 72.

None of these are on the color key.

Thank you for the help.

Hello vickigetman64,

Thank you for reply. Your explanations were great! However, I did not find what symbols you are referring to in the pattern file that we have in our database? I am not sure how your copy got some of those symbols on there? I am going to reprint the pattern that I currently have and get it sent out to you this morning via US mail. I apologize for the confusion and to be honest, I am not really sure how this happened? We are going to look into this though so thank you for bringing it to our attention. You will probably get an email confirmation when the pattern reships out to you. Please let me know if you have any issues at all with this new pattern that we are sending to you. Thank you :)

Strange! I've mainly seen this with Permin of Copenhagen, but they have a symbol chart in a table. The symbols represented number of strands & / or partial stitches.
