Embroidery Floss - Color Difference...
Help! I am in the middle of a counted cross stitch project that supplied somel, but not enough embroid. floss to complete the project. I went to Michael's with the DMC # 498. The one in the project looks deep red - almost burgundy and is described as Christmas Red. Tho thread of same # that I purchased is more of a pinkish red. I am not sure what to. Ideas? This has never happened before! Thanks in advance for the help!!

Try to match up your color here http://www.cyberstitchers.com/stitching_tools/floss_checklist the #498 looks like it's dark. Mouse over the color and see how close it is. (it gets bigger)

How much do you think you need?I have several partial skeins of #498 in my stash. It looks kind of burgundy to me. I would be happy to put a couple of them in an envelope and send them to you. How much do you think you need?

I'm guessing about 1 full pack/skein would be more than enough. I also saw on the website that there is a dark christmas red manufactured by "sullivan's" which looks to be a match to what I need. If you are willing to send me some floss - please private email me : holloway.claudine67@gmail.com and I will give you my contact information. Thanks so very much! - Claudine

Hi Mrs Nancy

I wish I am organized as you. How can I will be?

MISS C -- where did you get the idea that I am an organized person? I just spent three days looking for a seam ripper. Finally, found three of them, all together in a very illogical spot.

Yes, my DMC floss is organized. I have ten of the plastic boxes full of partially used floss. Way, too many duplicates -- like four of #498, that the poster was looking for.

Want to be more organized. I will give you two suggestions.

#1) Pick one or two of your current works in projects (one small one and one larger one). Concentrate on those until one is finished before starting another one.

#2) Spend more time stitching and less time on the Internet. This is one suggestion that I need to work on. I am very addicted to this chat room and so are you.

Work on these two and I will also.

Didn't DMC just change their formula on a number of red numbers? That would account for your difficulty matching your floss. Finding some of the old dye lots is the solution and Nancy is so kind to help you. I believe the new reds have a little symbol near the number but I don't recall what the symbol is.

TERRY -- Isn't that silly -- if they want to add something why not use a brand new number. It's not like we are going to run out of numbers, is it?

One thing for sure, I probably won't run out of floss anytime soon.

Nancye G - Thanks again for your kindness. This is the first time I've usesd a chat board & didn't realize how useful it could be. My cross stitich of the Frank Lloyd Wright Falling Water home outside of Pittsburgh would have looked very strange w/ 2 colors of red. Again appreciate all your kindess & the comments of others too! -

On the co!or chart there are 7 numbers in () which a note says are rayon co!ors, later combined into the Satin series. Big color changes must be dye !ots, they can't seem to fix.

What you say at first sounds like a kit.Are you sure they ussd DMC? Anyway, it could have been sitting in their stock for years

Claudine, I love architecture and that house is one of my favorites. What company is your pattern from? Is it a pattern or a kit? Thanks!
