stickers
Am I nuts or are stickers on merchandise becoming almost impossible to remove? I recently bought a beautiful decorative box for my grand daughter. I ruined the box removing the sticker. The store took it back but it was the last one like it. I have this problem over and over. Someone suggested using a hair dryer in one of my magazines - that made it worse. Some items can be soaked however, paper based products are a nightmare. I find myself wishing the merchants spend their days in hell removing these things. Any ideas?

Next - I think I missed that chat - what's the best way to keep track of what stitches have been done on a graph? I tried using a highlighter but it sometimes bleeds over. Tx.

I worked in a framing store many years ago and we used lighter fluid. Put a little on the sticker and wait for the fluid to undo the glue. Peel the sticker off. If there is any stickiness left. put on a little more lighter fluid and rub. The fluid that is left evaporates and doesn't leave an smell. It is safe to use on pictures, books, just about anything. I do it in a well ventilated area.

Would never have thought of that, like other hints. So it won't soften the paper underneath, like for instance, something made of cardboard?

You need an "extra-fine" highlighter or use the sharp pointed side...don't press hard.

Got it. I'll pick one up and soon. Tx VCESS

I use the stuff called Goo Gone for all kinds of stickers on every surface imaginable. Works perfect! Even on paper. Warning: VERY FLAMMABLE.
I bought Frixion erasable markers! Wow! They don't erase back to totally uncolored, but awfully close, last a long time before ink will run out. Love 'em!

Su, I forgot about that stuff. I do remember tho it smells awful but if it works, that's a good thing. Tx for the reminder.

VCESS is correct. There are fine point yellow highlighters out there that should work for you. WORD OF WARNING even with using the fine line highlighter, do not go "back-and-forth" over the same squares of the pattern too many times or you will not only smear the black ink of the symbols onto the tip of the highlighter but you'll weaken the paper the pattern is on! Been there, done that!

AND I AGREE ALSO with the kmraynal. If you are going to try the lighter fluid, try it out in some fresh air when you do it or you will breathe in the fumes and wake up explaining to the paramedics that you don't "sniff" lighter fluid for a hobby! :)

Tx Bermuda. Sometimes I do things unconsciously and that would have been one of them - the hi lite tip. So, the idea is to just go in one direction. I've been getting a wealth of info and it is greatly appreciated.

As for the lighter fluid, my son was a paramedic and I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than explain that one. LOL

Also, I don't know if you live in Bermuda but I, as a Floridian, am watching the storm info this week. I've been thru countless hurricanes and know, don't be paranoid but use common sense.

No, I live in South Carolina. My younger brother was a paramedic for a number of years in Florida and then he moved to New York. :)
What storm??? I haven't watched the weather channel for a week or so....

Bermuda, I think some of the nicest people in the country live in the Carolina's. I live in S. Florida and have encountered so many unpleasant people. Sometimes I'll be standing in line and make an innocent comment to the person in front of me and it's rare they respond. The words excuse me or thanks is not existent in their vocabulary. I could give you examples beyond this but I don't want to bash the state For the longest time I thought it was me however, I had a job where people from all over the country would come in and say "what's up with these people?" I know someone will say "if you don't like it here, leave." I rest my case.

Anyway, I was coming down from Maryland once, stopped in the Carolina's on the way south. Every one was so friendly and sociable. One young couple sitting in a car said "hi, how you doing?" I looked around - shocked they were talking to me. I went in restaurants and didn't want to leave. Seriously.
