frames
I have just started a medium sized project which due to being stitched all-over needs a frame to ensure it does not go out of shape. I am having trouble with the frame I am using (a split rail frame) as the material does not stay taut and I am constantly having to tighten it. Does anyone have a better idea as to what frame would be better for me to use as I don't want to do the pattern free handed if I can help it due to it being stitched all over. Any pearls of wisdom would be appreciated.

A suggestion is to try Q-Snaps which consist of round plastic rods that you place your fabric on and then push plastic clamps down that holds the fabric onto the rods. If the material starts to get a bit loose, which doesn't happen very often, you just twist the clamps to tighten the fabric. They also help prevent the "hoop lines" that occur when using hoops of the fabrics.I have all different sizes of Q-Snaps that helps me make different sizes. I would STRONGLY suggest that if you do try the Q-Snaps, that you do NOT buy the "generic" ones that can be found in different stores; the packaging should say "Q-Snap" on it. My experience with the generic ones are they just don't hold the fabric tightly enough. Type in Q-Snaps to get further information on prices and sizes. Check out You-Tube for a tutorial to give you an idea of what they are like.
If those are a bit too pricey for you wallet, I would suggest getting some cross stitch hoops. I purchase the plastic ones because I'm able to wash the hoops if I feel that they are getting dusty or dirty. I still use hoops on my small projects and use the Q-Snaps on my larger patterns.
I'm not an employee of ECS, but one of the stitchers that saw your "chat" message. :)
