1776 Stitched on Silk
Has anyone done the 1776 pattern? It says it is stitch on silk and is included with the pattern I have never stitched on silk. Is it similar to Adia in that it has the holes to stitch into? I love historic things and would love to stitch this but am a little nervous about stitching on silk because it seems so fragile especially if you have to rip out any stitches.

ladyj, I've never stitched on silk. I have used silk floss - that's all. I bought a book in Japan that features silk embroidery and it is a solid fabric, no holes. Silk is difficult to work on. I don't think that you would use cross stitch, it's more of an embroidery medium. At least from what I have learned.
Silk floss can be tricky and the stuff that I have used is not colorfast. Best not to make mistakes, it leaves a residue. It does feel wonderfully soft.

Thanks. Texas Stitcher. I may leave this one to the experts. I do like the pattern though. I wonder if it could be stitched on regular Aida cloth?

Erica charts her designs for 40 count silk gauze, so they are very fine. Not for the beginner.

But because they are counted designs you can use the chart to stitch the design on another fabric...Lugana, Linen or Aida would also work....it would just be a different size depending on the count of your fabric.

If it's counted x-stitch, then yes. You can do anything on Aida, ladyj.

Miss Kitty and Texas Stitcher,
Thanks so much for the information! I am so glad I can stitch it on Aida because I just love this cute little pattern!
