I got that e-mail also. I checked them out before I bought the light I have, because I wanted one and had a coupon. I found one with the same qualities as the Ottlite except no magnifier (which I don't need) for only $30 which was cheaper than the Ottlite using a coupon. I got it at Menards. I love my light, and it is perfect beside my sewing chair. The one thing I don't like about the Ottlites is they are white and I hate the color white. My lamp is black so that was another selling point.

One thing is that there are so many different choices for all of us crafters.

Darn, I bought one last month for $128 or so I think. I bought a bunch of other stuff as well so I have to check the receipt. I just took it out of the box last weekend. I should return it and repurchase it. Yeah, I'm with you syagel, they are pretty doggone unattractive. I haven't stitched with it yet. No time but believe that I need something with a magnifier if I want to stitch smaller than 25 ct. I wrote earlier in a post that I cannot figure out why I can't see. I don't have cataracts, wear prescription glasses, have better than 20/20 according to the doctor with the glasses, get regular exams, use proper light sources, etc. I did forget to ask why I can't see. She is super hyper and I am in and out in a flash. I hate to change because she is good. It's so annoying because I have so much fabric and love the look of the smaller count. I gave my last light with magnifier to my daughter because I had a difficult time adjusting. I feel dizzy using the magnifier. Every time I moved, I had to adjust it. I did more adjusting than stitching. Well, if it's 25 ct, it's 25 ct. No getting around it.
Thanks for the heads up, j.

It's all about the full-spectrum daylight light bulb. They're popular now, but Ott brought them out early. Their lamps aren't really that well made for the price. I bought a couple of the fancy "Lexington" table lamps, which fell apart.

So should I return mine??? Please advise, jlhewes. What should I get?? We don't have a Menard's here and Lowe's and Home Depot don't have a thing. I have tons of table and floor lamps but they give off so much heat and some don't recommend using high wattage. To quote Senior Stitcher "Uff da" whatever that means. Probably how I feel right now.

Can't advise. I use the Ott lights I have left. LED lights don't give enough light. I've tried them. If you have a reading or floor lamp you like, with a downward facing bulb, you could try a flourescent marked "daylight".

"Uff Da" is something the "Norveegians" say, even the little children. I couldn't get them to explain it, but I bet, if it were Yiddish, it would be "Oye" (Oye veyish meer, spelled phonetically)

My Norwegian relatives in MN have passed away and the rest don't really know. I vaguely remember it from my stay there but who can remember back almost 50 years besides an elephant. I know most Yiddish sayings. For some reason the Uff da appeals to me. Go figure.

I do have a top of the line lamp with no less than 2 bulbs facing down. I'll probably have to move it. It's in the media room and my husband complains of the brightness. I doesn't match the "décor" in my bedroom but who cares neither does the Ott Light. Thanks, jlhewes.

OK, I know this is off topic, but your mentioning "uff da" got me remembering what my Finnish grandmother would say: "Voi, voi, " meaning "Oh, oh." We had only one Norwegian family living in my mostly Finnish, Swedish, and Czech neighborhood in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I never heard "uff da" said, but it can mean about the same thing, an exclamation when something isn't quite going right. So this may not exactly be proper cross stitch blogging, but your conversation brought back a childhood memory :-) And by the way, it was my Czech heritage that got me to pick up an embroidery needle, while my Finnish side cause me to also learn to knit. Yours, Adele

Thanks, Adele. I was waiting for you to say that your Finnish side got you to love saunas. When I was a young teen I had a pen pal in Finland. I was taking typing lessons on a manual typewriter and would write to her that way in English. We were supposed to visit each other but somehow that never happened and the whole pen pal thing ended a year so later. Finnish is such a difficult language and thanks to her I can usually identify a Finnish name. Wonder what happened to her. I left home and my mother got rid of everything. She was the epitome of anti-hoarder. I still grief for some of my toys. LOL Haven't I come a long way from using a manual typewriter whose ribbon kept jumping off track to a computer!!!!

Gotta run, have to medicate DH and set up his BiPAP machine. Voi, voi, it never ends. :)
