cross stitching this
Hi I would like to know how long it would take to get this all done.

I am an advanced cross stitcher and it would take me at least 3 to 4 months to do this because I work on more than one project at once. If you are going to work on just this project I think it would still take several months to do it unless you worked on it several hours a day. It has 58,750 stitches which are all full cross stitches. If you are not a real experienced stitcher it would probably take you more time. I am working on a project now that has 120,000 stitches and have barely made a dent in the pattern. Good luck with your stitching. have a good day.

Someone told me you can stitch a square inch an hour, but I'm not sure that's true. Depends on the pattern. It would be interesting to time oneself.

Ok thanks

Assuming that is true Sherry( and my math is right) you would stitch 196 stitches every hour on 14 count Aida. So this pattern would take 299+ hours. If you stitch 3 hours every night ( and who does?) it would take 99 days...or a little over 3 months. That's if you don't screw anything up and have to rip it out, the dog or cat doesn't run off with the floss, the house doesn't spring a leak and your friends don't come looking for you to see if you've expired!! I'd conservatively say to double that....no wonder I never get anything finished??!!!

Hate to admit it Miss Kitty but there are some nights I do stitch at least 3 or 4 hours on a project. That is one of the things that I get to do now that I am retired.

You and me both, Miss Kitty. I'd have to do this one as a paint by number project. I did Jesus and the Virgin once as a kid. Somebody gave me the kits. I came across them at my mother's many years later and was so glad that I never pursued a career in that field. I would have starved to death.
Seriously though, this is pretty ambitious. I'm not a huge fan of stitching with white so it would take me forever.
I've had days where I stitched almost all day but can't do that any longer, too much to do. You're right jl, it would be interesting to time oneself. I did that with crocheting and knitting. I'm always surprised how little I have accomplished after stitching for several hours.

Good luck, sparkyboy48.

I actually only did cross stitching yesterday in between a couple of meals. I got a bad bee sting last week that got infected. The medicine they gave me made me so darn sick that I haven't done much of anything last week. Yesterday my stomach hurt so bad I just sat and stitched while watching football in between naps. I only got about 1000 stitches done on my John Wayne project so not a real productive day. Thank God my medicine is done today. Hope to feel better this week, because I have so many things to do that I won't get much stitching done. Have a good week everyone.

syagel, I hope that you feel better. I have problems with medication side effects and hate it when I have to take antibiotics. Olivia must have passed strep to us at least 5 times in the last couple of years and we were placed on antibiotics. Until she came along I don't even remember when I last had to take them. It's water under the bridge now but could your physician have prescribed something else?
Be careful out there. I read somewhere that insect bites are much more serious now due to the herbicides, insecticides, etc we use. The idea was that they carry residue in their bodies.
Don't worry about not having been able to stitch. You'll make up for it next week.
Have a great week.

It's all the color changes and plotting that are slowing me down....Instead of working one square area, I've been going on to other areas with the same color floss....4 stitches here, 1 there, another 4 over there. Might go faster to work one square.....Well, I may be frustratingly slow, but it is going to be gorgeous! I keep telling myself...... :) But I am certainly getting an appreciation of color and paintings!

Syagel, I hope you feel better soon!

Wow, Miss Kitty, that's excellent math skills. I also do about 3 hours of stitching a night (most night). I am doing an afghan right now and I'm doing at the least, one square to one and a half square per night.

Syagel: Prayers for your bee sting. Hope you feel better soon. By the way, any chance that we can get a sneak peek at "THE DUKE"?
